What's the difference between Selenite and Satin Spar

While Selenite and Satin Spar are similar there are clear differences. Both are a variety of gypsum. The two have the same chemical composition.

However, true selenite is clear and colorless like glass. It is more rare than satin spar and costs more.

It is common to see the terms selenite and satin spar used interchangeably.  Satin spar is opaque or translucent and fibrous.
